The temple is famous in Hindu mythology because Rama bathed in the pool after killing Ravana. He wanted to purify his soul and wash away the blood from his hair.
Peter has depicted the gods Ganesh, Murghan, Shiva/Parvati and Hanuman. |
The ceiling was painted by C. Alakeshan of Rameswaram. Peters assistant during the course of this work was U. K.Nagarajan (right) of Rameswaram. U. K. Nagarajan sketched all the gods and helped Peter with the painting.
